Wrap it up! - Daring Cardmakers Challenge

 Happy Friday!

I have a special card to share today for the Daring Cardmakers Challenge today.  It is in fact my eldest son's birthday on Sunday and I incorporated the challenge with his card.  I can't believe he's going to be 9.  I honestly don't know where the years are going and I still recall the day he was born after 3 very arduous days of labour :)

Enfys set the Challenge this week and wanted any form of packaging to be used on the card.  You should have seen the state of the dining room floor after I'd finished cutting up bits of any interesting packaging I could find before I finally decided on this:

I ended up using an egg box, chocolate sponge cake box (the icing sugar looked so cool as a planet!) and an Aero Easter Egg box for the planets.  I used the foil from the Easter egg for the rocket and paper pieced it with more chocolate cake!

The space themed background was a blast to create, excuse the pun!  I used my Tim Holtz inks in various colours and white acrylic paint for the stars.

I suspect the card will go down well with my son as he loves both space and chocolate!

Enjoy your weekend and don't forget to join in with this fun challenge,  I love what the other DT members have come up - they're very innovative!

Up in the Air - Daring Cardmakers Challenge

Happy Friday!

I'm really looking forward to a Sunday off this week.  I've had a demos every Sunday for the past few weeks which were great but it'll be nice to have family time, especially as it's Mother's Day.

The Challenge this week was set by Svenja who asked for a sky or flight themed card.  I immediately thought about hot air balloons as they seem so peaceful floating in the air and I'd love to go on one.

I'd bought a preloved clouds embossing folder a while back that I was itching to use and then I realised I didn't have either a hot air balloon die or a stamp so I improvised, as you do! I used a circle die for the balloon and cut a basket shape out which I then covered with twine.  I also got to use the brand new First Edition alphabet dies which are fab!

Green & A Glimmer of Gold - Daring Cardmakers Challenge

Happy Friday!

At the end of last year I made a personal challenge to be more organised with my workload.  As a consequence, I started making my Mother's Day cards in January, which is early for me.  I have a couple left to do and one for my Mum too, as I sold the card I'd made for her!  Well, someone saw it, wanted it and I couldn't say no.  Plus it's gone to another Mum.  I will make her an even better one........

As it's St Patricks Day, Lythan set the challenge of using green and gold on our cards.  I used an old Stampin Up set which has a favourite sentiment of mine.  I heat embossed the flowers and sentiment in gold then coloured in the flowers using my alcohol markers.  I fussy cut the flowers and arranged them on my card.  I finished by adding glitter washi tape along the bottom, well, it's been a while hasn't it?!  I miss glitter if I don't use it at least once a week on a project........

The sentiment is completed inside the card:

Enjoy the sunshine!

Take the Rough with the Smooth - Daring Cardmakers Challenge

Happy Friday!

I've seen a play on Egypt this week and I heard all about how they preserved body parts etc. It was performed by my eldest son's class and was a joy to watch.  The outfits were amazing!

On with the Daring Cardmakers Challenge for this week.  Joanne set the challenge to combine something rough/bumpy with something smooth/shiny.

I used a DCWV DIY Stencils Stack for my make.  The 12x12 stack of papers comes with reusable stencils. I used them to create a border around my card with my home made embossing paste.  It's so easy to do and I made this one with the addition of glitter and metallic paints - luscious!

RECIPE FOR GLITTER EMBOSSING PASTE: I mixed one portion paint, 1/2 portion glue, 2 portions talc (you can use bicarbonate of soda, I found it gives more texture) and 1 portion glitter.  You can use fine or course glitter but I used the fine as it's what I had.

The paste only took about 15 minutes to dry naturally and in that time I die cut my feathers and inked them with chalk ink before assembling the card.  A glittered pearl and ribbon finished it off.

I hope that you'll join in with the Challenge this week and see all the fabulous inspiration from the rest of the Design Team HERE on the Daring Cardmakers Blog.

March Elemental Challenge - Daring Cardmakers

Happy March!

The first Friday of every month over on the Daring Cardmakers Challenge is an Elemental one. This month Enfys chose the photo from which you have to choose a minimum of 3 elements and incorporate them into your card.

It really was a challenge for me this week, it took me ages to decide on what to do but I ended with this:

The elements I used were the black and white stripes from the rug, the circular coffee tables, the chrome from the light fitting and the wood from the furniture,

I used a wood grain embossing folder on kraft card and then went over it with distress inks to bring out the embossing futher. You can see it more clearly here:

I hope that you'll join in with this week's challenge and see all the other inspirational cards HERE.

World Book Day Part 2 in in full swing today.  We had Harry Potter yesterday and today Darth Vader has made an appearance (don't ask!) and I'm off to prepare for my demo on Sunday!
